not every river finds the sea

this is a true story of a river
that never made it to the sea

though her natural course was presumed
as all rivers are meant to follow
but somewhere along the way
a calling diverted her attention

she had no desire to swim with the tide,
so to speak
what an uneventful ending
that would have been
so predictable
so safe
so bland
to be watering everything along her way
sacrificing her sweetness, her clear waters
giving it all up merging into
the salty depths of the ocean
nourishing the marine underworld
losing sight of the deceptive blue sky
for the indigo abyss of the sea bed
relinquishing the delicate breeze
gentle deers, rainbows reflected in petals
for the yet undiscovered end of the ocean
possibly as infinite as the galactic world

what had once started as the roar of the storm
making a statement for all to heed
claiming the river banks with such arrogance
displacing the silt for all to observe
along the way our seemingly docile river
in all her awareness
heard a beckoning
and with an ever so defiant
consistent and
silent consent
allowed her every drop of water
to quitely transform
into the soft, wandering clouds

the river surrendered her entire being
at the juncture of the opulent sea
she became her higher form

and all the planets smiled knowingly
not because their prophecy was fulfilled
but because they recognised their own role
as guides
as reflections
of our own karma that eventually manifests
in this lifetime or the next, or the next…

and now you know why
not every river finds the sea

I once heard a knowledge session mention these words of wisdom:
when water falls down as rain we see and hear it
yet when it rises to form the clouds it does so silently and unnoticed

I found myself writing after a very long time through a spark of almost divine inspiration shared by a friend.

This piece holds within it a glimpse of something I’ve recently been deeply interested in learning: Jyotisha, the Science of Light.
