the end of thought

lady in thought

today i wondered about thought
i thought about
the origin of a thought
how it surfaces
on the landscape of my mind
from the unseen,
possibly a latent thought
likely a response or reaction
and surely a vibration

before i can assimilate
the ripples of my thought
it has already spiralled into
a stream, a cascade and
just as i resign myself
to be held captive,
intoxicated by a thought
just then
in the pause between breaths
i step away, ever so slightly
the faint flicker of a moment
creates a space that
untethers me from my thought

i watch
simply observe and
in the midst of translucent time,
a whisper of subtle breaths
my mind rests
suggesting
the end of thought

Inspiration – I recently read
“Philosophers have said they do not fear who do not fear going to the end of their thoughts”

[ this got me thinking
do thoughts ever end,
or do they eventually

soften into stillness? ]

One thought on “the end of thought

  1. Dear Sonya,

Thank you for this beautifully poetic consideration of thought. God willing, may we glimpse what thought veils.

    All good wishes,
